Pharmacy Tech
Description:
Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, a pharmacy tech dispenses medical prescriptions. She may also perform clerical duties like processing payments for prescriptions, verifying stock and entering data in computer to maintain inventory records and verify insurance converage.
Education Required:
None (but applicants who have completed pharmacy tech courses tend to get paid more and tend to be selected for open positions more than others). Certification course is around $700. Financial aid may be available.
Pay range:
Starting at $30,000 – $40,000/year (roughly $20/hour)
Criminal History:
Applicants must pass a mandatory criminal background check. Violent offenses, offenses involving organized criminal behavior, and drug offenses, even those involving alcohol, will probably be disqualifying. Applicants with other offenses should apply and explain their criminal history to the prospective employer.
